WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

In and around the watercress farms there is an abundance of wildlife, especially as there are large areas of water present. Shown below are some of the fauna and flora that can be found on the farms and are actively encouraged by preserving and enhancing habitats to ensure that they thrive.

Our farms in both Dorset and Hampshire have differing soil types, topography and climates, all encouraging different wildlife and flora species. For instance our Hampshire farms are surrounded by flora rich chalk downland, which encourages butterfly species such as the Adonis Blue and Marbled White.

On our overseas farms wildlife habitats are actively preserved and a diverse array of wildlife exists. To view these please look at our page ‘Our Overseas Farms’

ADONIS BLUE   MARBLED WHITE   WATERVOLE
A stunning blue that must not be mistaken for the common blue. It is fairly abundant around rough chalkland ground in the very South of England. The female tends to be a dull brown.   This butterfly is unlikely to be mistaken for anything else! It belongs to the family of the 'Browns'. It loves grassland and chalk-land flowers & its range has shown a healthy expansion in the last decade.   The water vole is the largest British vole. Once common and widespread, this species has suffered a dramatic decline in both numbers and distribution.
